Special mention must go to the dessert selection, especially the seasonal fresh fruit tarts which are made daily and better than others we have tried at twice the price (check out the daily special). Refreshments range from fresh squeezed juices, tea, espresso drinks, fizzy drinks, beer and wine. The selection varies from build-your-own pizza to fresh made sandwiches, salads, soups, quiches, etc. It's a great concept: quick self-serve, cafeteria-style dining on fresh and delicious food that's not too expensive. (there's one in every store we visited across the country as well as places like Schipol airport). La Place seems to be a chain associated with the V&D. Enjoying the view with a coffee and one of the excellent fruit tarts available here is even better. MoreĪs most people have noted, the view from this cafe is worth the visit by itself. My advice to visitors to La Place at Hudson's Bay is to avoid it at weekday lunchtimes and all day Saturday and Sunday as finding a seat and eating/drinking in comfort is very difficult to experience. Hudson's Bay urgently needs to re-think their strategy regarding La Place by reverting to the old one and a half floor plan which worked and was loved by all. When the old La Place was on two floors, the transactions took place on the sixth floor in an organised fashion. This also affected her own attitude resulting in some colourful language being exchanged. Secondly, if you only want a tea, coffee or cold drink, you have to join the queue of those buying food.Ī friend of mine was in the queue with her three children who were becoming agitated by the long wait. In most cases the person on the till at checkout also makes the tea and coffee. This is not the case! Firstly, the segregation of duties applied by the employees is awful. Granted, the views from this floor overlooking Haarlem (see photos) are magnificent but the purpose of a restaurant is to go and eat something and in comfort. Unfortunately, Hudson's Bay decided to use the entire sixth floor for merchandise resulting in the new version of La Place being assigned to cramped quarters only on the seventh floor. the entire seventh floors of the old V&D building, offering freshly-cooked meals along with the usual offerings of sandwiches to placate the Dutch palate. ![]() La Place used to be located on part of the sixth and.
